1️⃣ EQUITY TAKES CONTROL OF A 211-ROOM NAIROBI HOTEL
Glee Hotel in Runda has been placed under administration, with Kamal Anantroy Bhatt of Anant Bhatt LLP appointed effective 6 July, following a default that court filings put at Sh8.267bn (per Khusoko, citing the Insolvency Act notice and Nairobi High Court proceedings). A bank-commissioned valuation puts the eight-acre property near Sh9.5bn. It opened in late 2023 with 211 rooms, nine meeting rooms and six F&B outlets. It follows Eastland Hotel (Equity, September 2025) and Nairobi Upperhill Hotel (NBK).
🎯 So what: an asset worth Sh9.5bn carrying Sh8.27bn of debt has barely 13% equity cushion — and that was a 2023 build. Re-run your own debt service against actual, not budgeted, 2026 RevPAR this week and open the conversation with your lender before they open it with you. Buyers: distressed upper-tier Nairobi stock is the cheapest entry point in a decade — register interest with the administrator now.

2️⃣ THE JKIA LEVY IS NOW COLLATERAL, NOT JUST A TAX
Kenya will borrow Sh81bn of a Sh116bn JKIA financing package, with the balance from the National Infrastructure Fund and a bond secured against future airport passenger levy collections — Sh18.5bn a year is already earmarked to service airport debt (per Business Daily and Daily Nation, 24 July). The levy applies to every international and domestic ticket sold in Kenya.
🎯 So what: this is what changed. A levy pledged to bondholders is a levy nobody can cut. Stop modelling any relief on Kenyan air taxes into your 2027 and 2028 rate cards, and write the cost into net-rate contracts with tour operators now rather than absorbing it at settlement later.

3️⃣ UGANDA WILL WAIVE PARK ENTRY FOR THREE DAYS
Free national park entry on 25, 26 and 27 September, for Ugandans and foreigners alike, announced by State Minister for Tourism Susan Nsambu Nakawuki while touring Murchison Falls with UWA (per The Independent). Officials framed it plainly as a counter to the fifteen countries still holding advisories against Uganda.
🎯 So what: the waiver covers entry fees — game drives, boat cruises and permits are not confirmed as included. Lodges around Murchison, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo should build a three-night September package around the dates and sell it into the domestic and regional market this week, before capacity fills. Confirm scope with UWA before you publish a price.

Also noted: Kenya Airways returned its 400-seat 777-300ER to Nairobi–Heathrow on 17 July, on four of seven weekly rotations, cutting grounded capacity from roughly 18% of the network to 6–8% (per AeroRoutes and Khusoko). More UK seats into migration and Christmas.
