Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how to make us delete it.

The short version

EA Hospitality Pulse is a market-intelligence publication. Reading it requires no account and no personal data. The only personal data we hold is an email address, and only if you chose to give us one — by subscribing, requesting a PDF, or answering a survey.

What we actually collect

This table is the complete list. If something is not on it, we do not collect it.

Email addressIf you request the Sunday Foresight PDFTo send the download, and future editions if you opted inMailchimp (Intuit Inc., USA)

Aggregate page viewsEvery visitTo know which briefs are read and which are ignoredSee analytics below
We do not collect: your name (unless you volunteer it in a survey), your phone number, your employer, your location beyond country-level analytics, payment details (this site takes no payments), or any special-category data as defined in the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019 and the GDPR.

Analytics

We use privacy-first analytics that set no cookies, do not store IP addresses in a form that identifies you, do not build cross-site profiles, and do not follow you to other websites. We see aggregate numbers — how many people read the Tuesday brief, which country they were in, which site linked to us. We cannot see who you are.

Because no cookies are set for analytics and no personal data is processed for it, this site does not need and does not show a cookie consent banner. That is deliberate: a banner would be theatre if there is nothing to consent to.

Survey responses, and the promise attached to them

The Pay Benchmark and Agent Survey exist to produce numbers the industry does not currently have. Both are anonymous by design — we do not ask for your name, your property's name, or any identifier.

Results are published only in aggregate, and only where the sample is large enough that no individual response can be reverse-engineered from it. Where a cell would be small enough to identify a respondent — a single lodge in a thin market, say — we suppress it or widen the band rather than publish it.

If you write something in a free-text field that identifies you or your property, we will not publish it in a form that names you without asking you first.

How long we keep things

Your rights

Under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019 and, if you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, email ceo@eahospitalitypulse.com. We will respond within 30 days and in practice much sooner — the dataset is small enough that this is a manual lookup, not a ticketing system.

Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link. Using it is a valid exercise of your deletion right and needs no email to us at all.

If you believe we have mishandled your data you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya (odpc.go.ke), or to your national supervisory authority if you are in the EU or UK.

International transfers

Mailchimp and Formspree are United States companies, so an email address you give us is processed outside Kenya and outside the EU. Both operate under standard contractual clauses for international transfer. If that is not acceptable to you, do not subscribe — every edition is readable on this site, and the RSS feed requires no email address at all.

Children

This is a trade publication for hospitality operators. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect, we will change this page and update the date at the top. Material changes — a new category of data, a new processor, a new purpose — will be announced in the newsletter rather than made quietly.

We have deliberately not built user accounts, logins, or server-stored reading preferences. Personalisation on this site happens entirely inside your own browser and never reaches us. That is a privacy decision as much as an engineering one: data we never collect cannot be leaked, subpoenaed or sold.
