What I do

I advise hospitality businesses in East Africa on market, pricing and distribution questions, and I publish what I learn doing it. EA Hospitality Pulse is the public half of that work: a brief for the people who actually carry the decision — owners and general managers of hotels, lodges, camps and beach resorts in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Rwanda.

It runs three times a day, it is free, there is no paywall and no signup wall, and every item closes with something to do rather than something to know. Since 24 July 2026 that has come to 105 editions, 7 reference guides and 7 live datasets carrying 121 sourced records.

The record

Anyone can sound confident about a market. The only part of that which can be checked is a forecast logged before the outcome is known, with a falsifiable test and a resolve-by date attached, then scored in public when the evidence lands.

What I cover

Five markets — Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Rwanda — across the three segments that behave differently enough to need separate reading: city and MICE, bush and safari, beach and coast. Ethiopia is tracked as a comparator and transmission market rather than a home one.

The recurring subjects are the ones that move a booking or a margin: travel advisory levels and what they actually do to demand, park and permit pricing, air connectivity and route decisions, distribution economics, the cost side, new supply, and the conference calendar that compresses a city’s room stock for a week at a time. Those live as continuously maintained trackers, not as one-off articles.

How I work

Claims are graded, not asserted. Confirmed means read directly from a primary or official source. Reported means credible press carried it and I have not independently confirmed it. Early signal means an upstream indicator suggests something is coming and is labelled as inference until it resolves. Figures carry the source they came from and the period they cover, and anything outside its re-confirmation window is flagged rather than left looking current.

Corrections are published in the next edition rather than quietly edited in. The methodology page sets out the sourcing standard, the verification bar and the correction protocol in full.
