Rwanda's Prices Are Rising Four Times as Fast as Tanzania's.

Rwanda won Formula One for the 2030s in the week its prices ran 17.2% above last year's, and East Africa's 2027 cost base now spans 4.3% to 17.2%

This week the region sold the next decade. Formula One signed Rwanda for ten years, circuit due early next decade (13 Oct). EAC ministers adopted a 2027–2036 marketing strategy (15 Oct). The same week's statistics describe 2027: urban inflation of 17.2% in Rwanda (NISR, September), 6.8% in Kenya (KNBS, 30 Sep) and 4.3% in Tanzania (NBS, 8 Oct).

What everyone is missing: nobody sets the cost bases side by side. Rates are quoted in dollars; payroll, power, fuel and food are paid in local currency. A 13-point inflation gap is a margin gap on the same US$ rate, unless the exchange rate offsets it. We hold no Rwandan franc data to say it does (our inference).

1️⃣ RWANDA'S PRICES ARE RISING FOUR TIMES AS FAST AS TANZANIA'S
Rwanda's urban CPI was 17.2% in September, up from 15.7%; national CPI was 20.0%. Restaurants and hotels rose 18.9% on the year and the energy index 45% (NISR, reported 12 Oct). Tanzania held at 4.3% (NBS, 8 Oct). Uganda's latest found is 4.1% for August (4 Sep).
🎯 So what: put a cost-review date in 2027 Rwanda contracts; price Tanzania as the low-cost base.

2️⃣ KENYA'S DIESEL COST ROSE WHILE ITS POWER CHARGE EASED
Diesel is KSh227.76 a litre to 14 Nov, up KSh9.90 (EPRA, 15 Oct). Fuel VAT stays 8% for 90 days (Assembly, 14 Oct). October's power add-ons are about KSh4.10 a unit, from KSh4.16 (EPRA, 9 Oct).
🎯 So what: budget transfers on diesel, not power, until the 14 Nov review.

3️⃣ THREE DECADE-LONG PROMISES, ONE UNDECIDED VISA
F1 gave no start year (13 Oct). The EAC single-visa study is due 20 Oct, comments by 30 Nov (EAC council, 15 Oct). Marriott's 18-suite Serengeti camp is dated: November.

4️⃣ KENYA'S THIRD EBOLA CASE CAME FROM A QUARANTINED CONTACT
A 65-year-old woman in quarantine tested positive; 127 of 130 contacts are traced and Kenya says it is open with no travel restrictions (MoH, 16 Oct).

5️⃣ TANZANIA'S ADVISORY EASED ON TOP OF A RECORD ZANZIBAR AUGUST
The US cut Tanzania to Level 2 on 16 Oct. Zanzibar took 124,481 visitors in August, up 18%, with bed occupancy estimated at 92.9% (OCGS, 8 Sep; an older release).
