1οΈβ£ DRC PASSES 3,000 CASES IN TEN WEEKS
DRC health authorities released updated figures on Saturday 25 July: 3,075 confirmed Bundibugyo cases, 1,354 deaths, 556 recoveries and 755 patients still in hospital or isolation across Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele and Tshopo (per Xinhua and Africanews, 26 July). The death toll passed 1,000 only three days earlier. The 2014β16 West Africa epidemic took roughly eight months to reach 1,000 deaths; this one took under ten weeks. Around 100 staff at the Elikya treatment centre in Bunia struck from Saturday over unpaid bonuses.
π― So what: This is a pace problem, not a cancellation problem. Pull your new-bookings count for the last 7 days and compare it with the same week in June and the same week in 2025. If pace is down while your book still looks full, you have a Q4 hole forming now. Do not discount β nobody is choosing between you and a cheaper camp; they are choosing whether to come at all. Compete on free date changes and deposit protection instead.

2οΈβ£ THE FIRST BUNDIBUGYO VACCINE IS IN A HUMAN ARM
Oxford's Vaccine Group announced on Friday 24 July that the first volunteer received ChAdOx1 BDBV β the world's first human trial of a Bundibugyo-specific vaccine, from concept to clinic in eight weeks, with 50 healthy adults enrolling. Separately, DRC Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka said on Friday that a vaccine and treatment could be available "within two to four months" (per Xinhua, 26 July).
π― So what: Fact β a Phase 1 safety trial has started. Inference, ours: a Phase 1 read-out does not produce a deployable vaccine for the 2026 season. Treat the Prime Minister's two-to-four-month figure as a political statement, not a planning input. Build no 2026 recovery assumption on a vaccine.

3οΈβ£ THE 27 AUGUST CLOCK IS NOW A REGIONAL RISK
WHO AFRO's 16 July release states plainly that a single imported case from DRC resets Uganda's 42-day countdown to day zero. Uganda's earliest all-clear is therefore about 27 August β and DRC's acceleration is what threatens it. The US CDC's entry restrictions covering DRC, Uganda and South Sudan were renewed on 13 July and run to roughly 12 August.
π― So what: If you sell Uganda, stop quoting "the outbreak is nearly over" to agents. Quote the mechanism instead: last case 21 June, last patient discharged 16 July, clock resets on any import. Agents forgive uncertainty; they do not forgive being told it was fine.
