The Office of the Prime Minister's communiqué of 30 July 2026 appointed Jules Muheto Ndenga as CEO of Airport City — the planned hotel, logistics and commercial district around the new Kigali (Bugesera) International Airport — and moved Brig Gen Munyengango to lead Aviation Travel and Logistics Holding, the state aviation parent (Office of the Prime Minister communiqué, 30 July; en.webrwanda.com, 30 July). Airport construction is running at an estimated 25–30%, with phase one still targeted for 2027. We haven't seen this carried by the regional trade press yet.
🎯 So what: Confirmed fact — Airport City now has its own chief executive, separate from the airport build. Our inference, labelled as such: giving the commercial district a dedicated CEO before the runway is finished is how a government signals the hotel and mixed-use component is moving from masterplan to procurement. Yas has launched the 2026 Zanzibar International Marathon, its sixth edition, targeting more than 10,000 local and international runners, with a fully digital registration and payment system via the Mixx by Yas platform (The Citizen, 30 July). The most recent Citizen reporting sets the race for 25 October; one earlier source cited 20 September, so confirm the date before you load it into a rate calendar.
🎯 So what: This is a diarised, bookable demand pulse landing inside Zanzibar's Q4 shoulder, not the December peak. A 10,000-runner field pulls a two-to-three-night stay across Stone Town and the beach strip.
