β οΈ CORRECTION β TANZANIA & ZANZIBAR ARE US LEVEL 3, NOT LEVEL 2
Our 1β4 August editions carried Tanzania and Zanzibar at US Level 2. That was wrong. The US State Department raised Tanzania to Level 3 β Reconsider Travel on 31 October 2025 (grounds: unrest, crime, terrorism β highest in the far-south Mtwara Region β and targeting of gay & lesbian individuals). Zanzibar follows the mainland. We've verified it against travel.state.gov and corrected the status board.
π― So what: the regional US board now reads Kenya L2, Tanzania L3, Zanzibar L3, Uganda L4, Rwanda L3 β Tanzania and Zanzibar sit a full level above Kenya, and have for nine months while the market watched Uganda's Ebola L4. The divergence that matters: the UK still rates Tanzania/Zanzibar Level 1 β no warning at all. So your US guests see "Reconsider Travel" and your UK guests see nothing. For US-sourced clients booking the northern safari circuit or a Zanzibar beach week, have a calm, factual answer ready β the L3 risk drivers sit on the mainland, concentrated far from the Serengeti and the north-coast beaches. Inform; don't discount, and don't let a client conflate an advisory headline with the Ngorongoro rim.

πβπ THE ZANZIBAR SUPPLY DECISION MADE IN BARCELONA
On 22 July, in Barcelona, Marriott signed a dual all-inclusive deal with Spain's Catalonia Hotels & Resorts β one a 271-key Autograph Collection all-inclusive on Zanzibar, opening 2027 (per Marriott/PR Newswire). Read it next to Iberostar's 358-key Selection Zanzibar on Muyuni Beach, opening November 2026 β Iberostar's first East African resort. Roughly 600 branded all-inclusive keys are now programmed onto the north/east coast for 2026β27.
π― So what: all-inclusive competes on total trip price, not nightly rate, and this capacity was decided in European boardrooms feeding European charter demand. Independent Zanzibar resorts selling room-only or B&B into that same demand will find the package comparison harder from 2026. You have 12β18 months: either build a credible package/all-inclusive answer, or sharpen a room-only proposition β location, authenticity, service β that a 271-key box can't copy. Use the 2026 openings as your pricing reference; don't wait for the doors to open to plan.
