✈️ UGANDA AIRLINES TAKES ON RWANDAIR — DAILY KIGALI, AND A WEST AFRICA GATEWAY
Announced this afternoon (5 Aug, Sheraton Kampala) by acting CEO Girma Wake: Uganda Airlines will fly Entebbe–Kigali daily from 18 November on the CRJ-900, and Entebbe–Accra 4x weekly from 27 October on a 737-800 wet-leased from Ethiopian (per New Vision & Nile Post, 5 Aug). The Kigali service ends years of RwandAir holding a near-monopoly on non-stop Entebbe–Kigali.
🎯 So what: two things move here. First, the Kampala–Kigali corporate corridor gets a second daily carrier — more seats, real fare competition, same-day return options on one of the EAC's busiest business routes. City hotels in both capitals should read this as cheaper, more frequent regional connectivity feeding corporate and MICE demand, not a threat. Second, Accra opens a West African feed into Entebbe — trade, cargo and business travel from a region East Africa is barely connected to. That positions Kampala as a genuine transit-and-meeting point between West and East Africa: a forward demand signal worth building corporate rate around, especially into FHS Africa Kampala next February.

👉 Revenue note: don't assume today's Entebbe–Kigali fares hold into Q4 — watch RwandAir's schedule-and-price defence once a second daily carrier lands.

📅 NEXT WEEK'S CLOCK — TWO DIARISED DATES
• 12 Aug — the US CDC's Ebola entry suspension (DRC/Uganda/South Sudan) reaches its renewal point. Our standing call: renewed with DRC still listed; whether Uganda is decoupled is the open question for Ugandan inbound.
• 15 Aug — EPRA's monthly fuel review. Diesel (KSh 222.86/L, held flat only by state support, per EPRA July review) is the safari cost driver. Lock transfer contracts now rather than after the October VAT decision.
