🌇 EA HOSPITALITY PULSE — Tue 11 Aug, Evening Wrap
Thin news window. Tonight's Big Read: reading the Amboseli elephant deaths as an operator, then the board.

🐘 THE BIG READ — A REPUTATIONAL TEST, NOT A BOOKING THREAT

Kenya Wildlife Service is running a multi-agency probe into 16 elephants that died across the Amboseli–Kimana–Kitenden ecosystem between 24 June and 31 July. Preliminary University of Nairobi toxicology points to cyanide poisoning; KWS and the Pest Control Products Board are examining whether agricultural chemicals were misused or dumped near the park edge. Confirmatory tests are pending. Amboseli remains fully operational. (People Daily / Xinhua, ~7 Aug.)

Read it correctly. This is not a poaching resurgence, a disease event, or any risk to visitors — the likely pathway is agrochemical poisoning where farmland now presses against the park's wildlife dispersal corridors. Your exposure is informational, not operational: guests will ask, and wholesalers will notice.

What most will miss: this is a slow-burn structural risk, not a one-off. The land-use pressure on Amboseli's edges will keep producing incidents until it eases — so a credible guest-comms posture is an asset you reuse, not a one-week fix.

🎯 So what, by segment
🦁 Bush: ready a short, factual guest note now (probe underway, park open, no visitor risk) and brief your guides. Candour, not silence — and don't discount into a story that doesn't threaten the experience.
🏙🏖 City/Beach: minimal direct exposure, but multi-park itineraries routing through Amboseli should carry the same honest line.

📋 THE BOARD

✈️ CONNECTIVITY — Uganda Airlines confirmed Accra from 27 Oct (4×/week, ~US$750 return) and Kigali from 18 Nov (daily, ~US$370 return — under RwandAir's ~US$450), building Entebbe as a hub. The Kigali link is the one to watch: it makes twin-hub Uganda–Rwanda gorilla circuits genuinely seamless. (The EastAfrican, ~5 Aug.)

💰 COST / STILL TRUE — EPRA holds Nairobi diesel at KSh222.86/L to 14 Aug; next review 14 Aug (watch the generator/transfer reset). Advisory board unchanged: Uganda US Level 4, Kenya Level 2, TZ & Zanzibar Level 3.

🕓 HELD — AfDB's reported €156m Arua Airport upgrade, and talk of an expanded EAC single tourist visa, are not yet verified or gazetted — we'll run them when they are.
