๐ Wednesday 12 August 2026 | ๐ฐ๐ช ๐ ๐ช๐บ
The US hardened its Nairobi geography a fortnight ago. We caught it today, and can't find anyone who has reported it.

1๏ธโฃ ๐ฐ๐ช EASTLEIGH AND KIBERA ARE NOW "DO NOT TRAVEL"
The rendered travel.state.gov Kenya advisory, re-read at midday today, carries "Date issued: July 28, 2026" โ not the 17 March 2025 date that stood when we last verified on 2 August โ and lists the Nairobi neighbourhoods of Eastleigh and Kibera under Level 4, Do Not Travel, for crime and kidnapping. A sixth risk indicator, "Other (O)", has been added. Kenya's country level is unchanged at Level 2. State's own note: "There was no change to the advisory level. The 'other' risk indicator was added. Advisory summary was updated." (travel.state.gov, checked 12 Aug; US Embassy Nairobi, 30 July.)
Correction: our board carried those neighbourhoods as Reconsider Travel. Fixed today.
๐ท Kenya ยท City ยท Confirmed (page text) / Inference (that the 28 July action was substantive)
๐ฏ So what: Nothing here touches Westlands, Upper Hill, Gigiri, the CBD or Karen. But corporate travel-risk desks parse advisory text as strings, not maps, and "Nairobi" plus "Do Not Travel" is what an automated flag returns. Rewrite duty-of-care and pre-arrival wording this week โ name both neighbourhoods, state that no routing touches them โ before Hotel Expo buyer traffic on 19โ21 August.
2๏ธโฃ ๐ DRC EBOLA PASSES 2,000 DEATHS AS THE US ORDER EXPIRES
DRC officials reported 2,011 deaths from 4,381 confirmed cases as of Tuesday, at least 1,000 of them in the past three weeks โ the fastest-growing outbreak on record (AP/Al Jazeera, 11 Aug; UN News, 11 Aug). OCHA is preparing Rwanda for possible spread; Rwanda has no confirmed cases. Israel is testing a citizen who returned from the DRC with a fever. As of 13:30 EAT the CDC order page still shows the 13 July order as latest โ no renewal published, expiry 4:59pm EDT tonight.
๐ท Regional ยท Bush/City ยท Confirmed
๐ฏ So what: The case for renewal strengthened in the last 24 hours. Don't brief agents on a lapse. Watch Israel's result โ a first confirmed export outside Africa is what moves European advisories.
3๏ธโฃ ๐ช๐บ TUI: THE EUROPEAN GUEST IS BOOKING LATE, NOT BOOKING LESS
TUI's Q3, out this morning: underlying EBIT โฌ234m against โฌ321m a year ago, summer booked revenue 6% below last year โ but bookings up 7% over the past four weeks, FY26 guidance held (TUI Group, 12 Aug).
๐ท Zanzibar / Kenya coast ยท Beach ยท Confirmed (figures) / Inference (EA read)
๐ฏ So what: A thinner book filling later. If you're contracting winter 2026/27 for Zanzibar or Diani, don't read a light September position as a weak season and pre-discount into it. Hold allocation; keep a short-lead offer in reserve.
โโโโโโโโโ
โ
STILL TRUE โ Uganda L4; Kenya L2; Tanzania & Zanzibar L3. Coastal geography unchanged: Kilifi north of the C103 and areas north of Malindi stay L4; Diani and Watamu are not in it.
