Evening Wrap

Google searches now end with zero clicks 68% of the time.

Google searches now end with zero clicks 68% of the time. For a safari sale built on weeks of research, that is where your guest quietly disappears.
━━━━━━━━━
1️⃣ 🌍 THE SEARCH BOX STOPPED SENDING PEOPLE — AND A SAFARI IS THE MOST RESEARCHED PURCHASE IN TRAVEL

US Google searches ended without a single click 68.01% of the time between January and April 2026, up from 60.45% in 2024 (SparkToro, on Similarweb clickstream data, 9 Jun 2026). AI Overviews now appear on more than 20% of searches; where one appears, click-through falls by close to 60%.

Booking Holdings confirmed the mechanism. CEO Glenn Fogel told analysts Google's display changes "definitely put some pressure on SEO" — while direct traffic, mid-60% range, "hasn't gone down at all" (Skift, 4 Aug 2026).

Read that split properly. People who already know the name still arrive. People who don't, no longer do. Booking loses one channel. A 14-tent camp in the Mara loses its only one.

What everyone is missing: this never appears in your booking report. A safari is bought after weeks of informational queries — when the crossing happens, what a gorilla permit costs, is Zanzibar safe, Kenya or Tanzania. Those are exactly the questions a generated answer settles on the page. The loss lands in your agent's enquiry inbox, three to six months upstream of your pick-up.

🎯 So what: publish citable facts, not adjectives. Models quote dated, checkable statements — a fee table with its effective date, exact crossing windows, transfer times in minutes. Then ask your three largest agents for enquiry counts, not bookings. That is the early-warning line.

💬 When did you last ask an agent how many enquiries they got — not how many bookings they sent?
