1️⃣ JKIA STRIKE ENTERS DAY TWO. 30% OF KQ FLIGHTS LEFT BY 2PM.

Kenya Aviation Workers Union members downed tools at the Kenya Airports Authority, KCAA and Jambojet on Sunday 30 August. Kenya Airways reported that only 30% of its scheduled flights had departed by 14:00 EAT, with those that went averaging two-to-three-hour delays and later departures running beyond three (KQ customer update via KATA, 30 August). Disruption continued into this morning. KAA confirms delays but reports no closure — flights are operating.

🎯 So what: Your exposure is missed onward connections, not cancellations. Any guest landing at JKIA today with a same-day Wilson or coastal leg to the Mara, Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar should be treated as at risk. Hold their room rather than releasing it, ring the DMC before the guest rings you, and offer the date change before anyone asks for a refund.

2️⃣ THIS IS THE THIRD ROUND OF THE SAME DISPUTE SINCE FEBRUARY.

Treat this as a pattern, not an accident. The same CBA dispute shut JKIA for two days on 16–17 February 2026 — Jambojet flew just 25% of its schedule, cancelled over 40 flights and disrupted 5,000+ passengers (Jambojet CEO Karanja Ndegwa, Capital FM, 19 February). A second round was enjoined by the High Court on 23 July and suspended on 27 July under a return-to-work deal. KAWU has now lifted that suspension, saying the agencies never honoured it.

🎯 So what: February's round ended on day two via mediation led by Transport CS Davis Chirchir. That is the base rate to plan against — expect resolution in days, not weeks, and don't panic-discount Q4. But stop treating JKIA reliability as a given when you build September–December itineraries: build a buffer night in Nairobi into long-haul arrivals rather than selling same-day bush connections.

3️⃣ STILL TRUE — KENYA IS STILL LEVEL 2. THIS IS NOT A RISK EVENT.

We checked travel.state.gov this morning: Kenya remains Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, date issued 28 July 2026 — unchanged. No government has moved on Kenya because of the strike.

🎯 So what: When an agent asks whether Kenya is "having problems", answer precisely. A labour delay at an airport is an operations event; nothing about the country's risk posture has changed. Properties that blur the two hand a booking to the one that doesn't.
