1️⃣ ON 27 SEPTEMBER, "ECO-LODGE" STOPS BEING FREE
EU Directive 2024/825 — Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition — applies from 27 September 2026 (EUR-Lex; European Commission). It bans generic green claims to EU consumers unless a recognised certification backs them: "eco-friendly", "green", "sustainable", "responsible". It bans "carbon neutral" where the claim rests on offsets outside your value chain. It bans self-made badges. Where you are based is irrelevant: per Sustainable Travel International's guide (5 August 2026), the rules bind anyone marketing to EU consumers, Africa included.
What everyone is missing. Enforcement won't come from Brussels. It will come from your German agent. The EU operator reselling your lodge is squarely in scope, carries the fine risk — the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive that EmpCo amends allows maximum fines of at least 4% of turnover in the member states concerned — and reuses your copy in its brochure. Our inference, labelled as such: the Q4 contracting round brings substantiation questionnaires down the chain for the first time.
And this is not a cost. It is a repricing. Conservation credentials have been commercially worthless here for twenty years because they were free to claim: a conservancy paying real lease fees competed against a lodge whose entire programme was the word "eco". From 27 September only one of them can keep saying it.
🎯 So what: Search your website tonight for "eco", "green", "sustainable", "carbon neutral". Evidence each hit, replace it with a measured fact, or delete it by 27 September. Then start a Travelife or Green Key application — both are named as legitimate schemes.

2️⃣ STILL TRUE — KENYA IS STILL LEVEL 2
No advisory movement on any of the five markets today. Kenya remains US Level 2 (re-issued 28 July 2026, verified 12 August); Diani, Watamu and the Nairobi hotel corridors sit outside every Level 4 zone. The UK still advises against travel to no part of Uganda (verified vs gov.uk, 28 August 2026).
🎯 So what: An agent asking about "the Kenya situation" is asking about a labour dispute that ended yesterday, not a risk level. Don't discount into a question you can answer with a link.

3️⃣ COST PULSE — THE FUEL CYCLE TURNS IN 13 DAYS
Kenyan diesel holds at KSh 217.86/L to 14 September 2026, roughly KSh 14 above what landed costs implied, because diesel users are cross-subsidising petrol (EPRA notice / Business Daily, 14 August 2026). Diarise two dates: the EPRA review on 14 September, and the expiry of the 8% VAT rate on petroleum on 14 October 2026.
🎯 So what: Refuse any supplier fuel surcharge before 14 September — the landed-cost figure kills the argument. Model a step-up for Q4 transfers.
