Exclusive — Canada Put Kenya on Its Dengue Watchlist Yesterday.

1️⃣ EXCLUSIVE — CANADA PUT KENYA ON ITS DENGUE WATCHLIST YESTERDAY. THE COUNTIES IT LANDS ON ARE MOMBASA AND KILIFI.

At 11:30 ET on 8 September 2026 Ottawa updated its Kenya travel advice. One change: "Health – Travel health notice for dengue added." Kenya now sits on Travel Health Notice 517, Level 1, among eleven destinations "reporting higher than expected numbers of dengue cases" (travel.gc.ca, updated 8 Sep 2026). The country risk level did not move.

That is the third G7 flag in five weeks. The US Embassy in Nairobi issued a health alert naming the coast, Wajir and Garissa on 3 August 2026; Germany logged the same CDC notice that day.

The advisories and the outbreak disagree on geography. The outbreak MoH activated its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre for is in the north-east: 1,678 cases and five suspected deaths across Garissa and Wajir as at 26 August, 1,276 of them in Dadaab (MoH statement, 28 Aug 2026). None of that is near a tourist bed. But between January and May, Mombasa recorded 3,989 cases — more than that entire outbreak — with Lamu on 445 and Kilifi on 339 (CS Duale, via The Standard). The advisories name the coast because that is where the cases have been all year.

🎯 So what — your mosquito protocol is the wrong protocol. Nets, evening fogging and dusk-to-dawn repellent are built for Anopheles. Dengue's Aedes bites in daylight, and MoH's own guidance asks for prevention of "daytime mosquito bites". It breeds in a bottle-cap of clean water — plant saucers, pool-deck drainage, water features, boat covers, gutters.
• BEACH (Diani, Watamu, Malindi, Kilifi, Lamu): weekly empty-scrub-cover on every standing-water point. Move repellent to daytime — pool bar, not turndown.
• CITY (Nairobi, Mombasa): same drill on terraces and atria. Housekeeping SOP, not marketing.
• AGENTS: Level 1 means precautions, not deterrence. Say so in writing before a client reads it cold.

2️⃣ AND THE MPOX MAP IS THE SAME MAP. MOMBASA 452. NAIROBI 320.

Public Health PS Mary Muthoni, Monday 7 September 2026: 1,298 confirmed mpox cases and 19 deaths across 40 of 47 counties. Seven named highest-risk, on transport corridors — Mombasa, Nairobi, Busia, Makueni, Kiambu, Kilifi, Nakuru. Mombasa leads on 452, Nairobi 320, Busia 115. Enhanced screening at all border points (KBC, 7 Sep 2026).

🎯 So what: two unrelated outbreaks, one geography — the geography that holds Kenya's rooms. CBK put September forward bookings at 53%, weakest of the four months to November (Business Daily, 25 Aug 2026). Brief front-of-house on fever-and-rash escalation now, not at the desk.
