Yesterday EPRA froze your fuel price.
Yesterday EPRA froze your fuel price. This week the routes it arrives by were cut.

1️⃣ SAUDI SHUT THE PIPELINE THAT WAS KENYA'S WAY AROUND HORMUZ
Saudi Arabia has closed its 1,200km East-West pipeline after drone strikes near Riyadh and Medina. The line runs crude from Abqaiq to the Red Sea to bypass the Strait of Hormuz — and it is why Aramco displaced the UAE as Kenya's largest G-to-G supplier: KSh 99.78bn of imports in the quarter to May against the UAE's KSh 42.10bn (KNBS, via Business Daily, 14 September 2026).
Hormuz itself runs at roughly 6–9m barrels a day against 20m+ pre-war. Brent closed Monday at US$107. An unnamed oil-industry executive told Business Daily nine days of Platts show super up ~US$87/m³, diesel US$57. Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi: supply is securable, but "what we cannot guarantee is the prices".
🎯 So what: yesterday you had 30 days of known diesel cost. Now 29, against a visibly rising input. Insert the fuel-adjustment clause today, and treat KSh 217.86 as a floor rather than a forecast.

2️⃣ AND THE THIRD ROUTE WENT THIS WEEK — THE HOUTHIS NOW HOLD BAB AL-MANDEB
Barely reported here. The Houthis took Mocha on 10 September, then Yemen's remaining Red Sea coast and Perim Island mid-strait on 11 September; the Hanish Islands followed (FDD, 14 Sep 2026; NPR, 11–12 Sep 2026). Roughly 12% of world goods move through Bab al-Mandeb (AP, 14 Sep 2026).
What everyone is missing. These are filed as three Middle East stories. For an EA property they are one story with one output — the landed cost of everything arriving by sea. Riyadh was leaning on Bab al-Mandeb to escape Hormuz. Kenya's fuel and its imported inputs now share one point of failure.
🎯 So what: labelled inference — no EA freight surcharge has been announced. If you import linen, generators, spirits or spare parts, get a written surcharge position from your forwarder through Q1 this week.

3️⃣ TWO THINGS EXPIRE ON 14 OCTOBER — AND YOUR CONFERENCE SEASON SITS INSIDE THE LAST KNOWN-COST MONTH
The 8% VAT on petrol, diesel and kerosene, cut from 16% in April and extended by KRA's Order of 14 July 2026, runs only to 14 October — the day EPRA's frozen cycle also ends. Our arithmetic, illustrative: gross the KSh 217.86 diesel cap from 8% back to 16%, nothing else changing, and you get ~KSh 234, about KSh 16 a litre — before any pass-through from item 1.
🎯 So what: Africa MICE Summit (Mombasa, 1–2 Oct) and Kenya Transport Summit (KICC, 30 Sep–2 Oct) sit inside the last month of fixable transfer pricing. Fix delegate rates now; clause anything beyond 14 October.

📋 We got one wrong. We said MV Dan would still be aground off Nyali on 1 September (P029). It was refloated 15 August. The window we bet against held.
📻 STILL TRUE — WHO DON617 (10 Sep): DRC Bundibugyo at 6,757 / 3,267 deaths, CFR 48.3%; WHO still advises against travel restrictions. Wilson Airport is still day-only, 06:30–18:30, night flights pending KCAA sign-off on runway lighting (Business Daily, 18 Aug) — four weeks on, in peak season.
🔎 Blind spots: the Kenya Gazette portal and KCAA eAIP served empty pages; three queries each, recovered via mirrors and cited as such, nothing tourism-relevant in window.
