No fresh wire this morning — so here is the thing the H1 numbers are telling every operator, and most are still not pricing for.

1️⃣ THE GUESTS ARE ALREADY ACROSS THE BORDER
The half-year data is in, and it points one way. South Africa took 5.58m international arrivals in H1 2026, up 12.3% — but the split matters more than the headline: arrivals from the rest of Africa rose 14.3%, while overseas arrivals grew just 5.6% (Statistics South Africa, released 30 July). More than 70% of monthly arrivals came from the SADC region. The same pattern shows in our own backyard: Rwanda's single largest source market in H1 was not Europe or America but the DRC — 185,420 visitors, 12.5% of arrivals — with Kenya (10%) and Tanzania (9%) next (Rwanda Development Board, H1 2026).
Regional demand is growing two to three times faster than long-haul, and it is the base that holds when a Western advisory lands or the dollar turns. Yet it is still treated as walk-in: undifferentiated rate, no product, no campaign.
🎯 So what: build a deliberate regional book, don't wait for it. City hotels — price a weekday cross-border corporate and long-stay rate for the trade, health and education travel that already fills midweek. Bush — sell the shoulder season on the African-resident and EAC tariff you already have (Uganda gorilla permits run US$500 for Africans and UGX 300,000 for EAC citizens vs US$800 foreign; low-season US$600). Beach — court the Gulf and India charter demand that fills the European off-months.
