๐ŸŒ… EA HOSPITALITY PULSE โ€” Mon 10 Aug, Morning
Quiet news morning. One Expert Brief, then the board.

1๏ธโƒฃ THE RECORD THAT HIDES A RISK โ€” READ YOUR SOURCE-MARKET MIX, NOT YOUR ARRIVALS LINE

Every headline this year says the same thing: records. Zanzibar cleared 917,167 arrivals in 2025 (OCGS). Tanzania banked US$4.41bn in tourism earnings, up 13% (NBS, 2025). Kenya reports ~7.9m visitors. The applause is deserved. It is also the wrong thing to be watching.

Look underneath Zanzibar's boom and you find a single load-bearing pillar: Europe supplied 61.9% of June arrivals (43,105 of 69,605) and 69.5% in January (OCGS, June figure released ~12 Jul). One region, most of your bookings. That is not a franchise โ€” it's a bet on one continent's disposable income and one continent's risk appetite.

What everyone is missing: a record-arrivals headline is not validation, it's a concentration warning. And you don't have to imagine the shock โ€” it's live. Uganda sits at US Level 4 "Do Not Travel" (State Dept, 5 Aug) and the US CDC Section 362 entry order (renewed 13 Jul, next call ~12 Aug) has effectively frozen one Western source market for the Uganda/DRC corridor overnight. A single government notice did that. A European recession would do the same to a coast that leans 62โ€“70% on Europe.

The hedge already works โ€” someone's proven it. Tanzania grew Chinese arrivals from 33,000 to 82,000 in two years through Mandarin-language outreach. Deliberate diversification, not luck.

๐ŸŽฏ So what, by segment
๐Ÿ– Beach: most exposed. Build Gulf/India/intra-Africa shoulder fill now โ€” language, OTA and payment rails ready before the next Western wobble, not after.
๐Ÿฆ Bush: the Uganda freeze shows how fast one advisory empties a source market. Court Gulf/India feeder demand on the new Doha/Dubai lift; hold rate through a Western gap rather than discounting.
๐Ÿ™ City: MICE and intra-African business travel are your natural diversifier โ€” MKTE (Oct), FHS Africa Uganda 2027, ICCA Kigali 2027 are demand that doesn't depend on Western leisure sentiment.

๐Ÿท Regional ยท All segments ยท Confidence: High (data dated & sourced)

๐Ÿ“‹ THE BOARD

โœ… STILL TRUE โ€” Uganda US Level 4 unchanged (State Dept, 5 Aug); TZ & Zanzibar US Level 3 since 31 Oct 2025. Uganda's 42-day Ebola all-clear completes ~28 Aug, but no entry rule has changed. Don't price a US-market rebound you can't yet see.

๐Ÿ“… WEEK AHEAD โ€” CDC Section 362 order decision ~12 Aug; EPRA Kenya fuel review ~14 Aug (petrol held at KSh214.03/L to 14 Aug, EPRA Jul review); Hotel Expo Kenya 19โ€“21 Aug (KICC).

๐ŸŽค MICE WATCH โ€” Hotel Expo Kenya, Nairobi/KICC, 19โ€“21 Aug (city midweek bump). WTA Africa Gala, Zanzibar, 28 Aug (north/east coast compression, last week of Aug).

๐Ÿ“ก RADAR โ€” Upstream source poll returned nothing new in-window this slot; advisory board and outbreak status unchanged since the weekend. No exclusive to report.
