🌆 Evening Wrap · Tue 13 Oct 2026
━━━━━━━━━
1️⃣ Formula One has confirmed a 10-year African Grand Prix at Bugesera, 40 km from Kigali
F1 announced the deal on 13 Oct. The race is branded the African Grand Prix presented by Visit Rwanda. A Hermann Tilke circuit will sit beside the new Kigali international airport, to FIA Grade 1 standard. No race date is set; the circuit is expected in the early 2030s (Formula One announcement, 13 Oct; Nile Post, 13 Oct). Neither source gives hotel or visitor numbers.
Our inference: this is a 2030s event, not a 2027 one. Its first effect is on investors and brands choosing where to put keys near Bugesera and Kigali.
🎯 So what: Rwanda owners should not reprice on it. Plan only for pre-race site visits, sponsor travel and franchise interest. Elsewhere, expect "Africa's F1" to shape Rwanda's pitch to events buyers.

2️⃣ Marriott's Autograph Collection is bringing an 18-suite tented camp to the Serengeti in November
Mereshi Safari Camp Serengeti has 18 elevated suites of 95 sq m on 55 acres, near the Fort Ikoma Gate at Robanda. It is anticipated to open in November 2026 (Hospitality Net, 12 Oct). The release names Delaware Investments but no operator, rates or executives.
Our inference: this is a Marriott brand, with Bonvoy distribution, entering the western Serengeti corridor.
🎯 So what: nearby tented camps should check how Bonvoy rates and points redemptions will sit against their own direct rates for Q1 2027.

3️⃣ Kenya's EPRA pump-price review is due Wed 14 Oct, with the IMF forecasting lower oil
The IMF projects lower oil prices, linked to easier US limits on Russian oil (Kenyans.co.ke, 13 Oct). The 14 Sep review held prices unchanged to 14 Oct (Citizen Digital, 14 Sep). In Uganda, Capt Mike Mukulu says the dollar has moved from about Shs3,700 to roughly Shs4,100. That is his claim, not a bank figure. Museveni said on 9 Oct the state will not use reserves to prop up the shilling (Nile Post, 13 Oct).
Our inference: a cut tomorrow would help transfer and generator costs in Kenya. Uganda's pump price is exposed to the shilling, not just oil.
🎯 So what: price Kenya safari transfers off tomorrow's figure, not today's. Ugandan lodges with USD rates and shilling fuel bills should keep fuel clauses in 2027 contracts.
