🌆 EVENING WRAP · Fri 2 Oct 2026

DRC Ebola passes 8,300 cases, Ethiopian flies into Lamu's Manda airport, and a flydubai cockpit attack revives Gulf hub risk.
━━━━━━━━━
1️⃣ DRC EBOLA PASSES 8,300 CASES AS EUROPE LOGS ITS FOURTH IMPORTED CASE, WITH UGANDA STILL CLEAR

ECDC reports a healthcare worker based in the DRC tested positive on 29 Sep and was evacuated to the Netherlands, the fourth import into Europe; all four were medical or humanitarian workers, and ECDC calls the risk to Europe's public "very low" (ECDC, 1 Oct). DRC's Health Ministry counts 8,300 cases and 4,018 deaths; weekly cases averaged about 490 in September against about 850 in mid-July (STAT, 2 Oct). Uganda's outbreak was declared over on 27 Aug (UK FCDO, 2 Sep). Our inference: the curve is easing, but the headlines reach your source markets first.
🏷 City, Bush | Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya | Confirmed | impact:risk
🎯 So what: tell arriving guests there is no East African case and that Kenya screens at Nairobi and Mombasa (Auswärtiges Amt, 2 Oct). The US entry order runs to 11 Oct.

2️⃣ ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES HAS FLOWN THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL SERVICE INTO LAMU'S MANDA AIRPORT

Travel News Africa (2 Oct) reports a Boeing 737-800 made Manda's first international movements this week, timed with the 30 Sep refinery launch, after runway and terminal upgrades. Manda had been domestic turboprops only. We have seen no KAA or KCAA notice, schedule or frequency. Our inference: an event flight is not a route.

🎯 So what: Lamu owners should ask KAA whether scheduled service follows before pricing 2027 on it.

3️⃣ A FLYDUBAI COCKPIT ATTACK AND A US MILITARY BUILD-UP PUT GULF HUB ROUTINGS BACK ON THE RISK LIST

A co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain of a Dubai–Tel Aviv flight on 30 Sep and tried to bring it down; it landed in Saudi Arabia. The UAE opened a terrorism inquiry, flydubai suspended Israel flights, and the US is adding forces (Euronews, 2 Oct). The US Qatar Level 3 (28 Aug) cites "significant disruptions to commercial flights". We found no Emirates, flydubai or Qatar change to East African schedules.
🏷 City, Bush, Beach | Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Uganda, Rwanda | Reported | impact:risk
🎯 So what: for groups routed via Gulf hubs, confirm an alternative routing and the refund terms this week.

🏗 DEAL FLOW: No new verified EA deal flow in the window. Elewana's Ngorongoro lodge was re-run 2 Oct but announced 4 Sep, so it is not new.

📻 ALSO TONIGHT
🇹🇿 UK FCDO updated Tanzania advice on 1 Oct to add the mandatory inbound insurance rule; levels unchanged (FCDO, 1 Oct).
🇰🇪 KWS hosted tour operators and agents at a Travel Trade Partnership breakfast, Nairobi National Park, 2 Oct (KWS, 2 Oct); we have not seen its programme. KenyaLIVE (launched 22 Sep) streams nine parks; KWS claims 500,000+ daily viewers (Tourism Update, 2 Oct).
🇷🇼 Rwanda's revenue sharing has funded about 1,300 community projects, Rwf23bn (US$15.6m), since 2005 (Tourism Update, 2 Oct).

⏳ CATCHING UP: 🇺🇬 Uganda's September inflation was 4.6% year on year, 0.9% on the month, with fuel above UGX6,600 a litre in places (UBOS via Nile Post, 30 Sep).
