Health Director General Dr Patrick Amoth said on Thursday 22 Oct that "our first contacts will begin leaving the quarantine facilities on Sunday", after the full 21-day monitoring period without symptoms. The Ministry puts the count at nine cases, with 134 of 135 contacts traced as of 20 Oct. It also said the 42-day countdown to being declared Ebola-free has not formally begun (Kenyans.co.ke, 22 Oct 14:00). We have not yet seen a Ministry statement confirming that releases happened today.
Our inference: counting 42 days from the ninth case (confirmed 20 Oct) gives about 1 December at the very earliest, and the 23 Oct death pushes that later. "Cases are contained" and "Kenya is declared clear" are different dates.
🎯 So what: brief reception on the first, not the second. Do not promise guests an all-clear before December.

2️⃣ Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have still not agreed a joint AFCON 2027 visa; the proposal is a four-month visa with fee and dates unconfirmed
KATA's 25 Oct note says the plan is "not a final tripartite agreement", with fee, eligibility and operating dates unset, and the tournament running 19 June to 17 July 2027. Kenya's Sports CS Salim Mvurya announced the "PAMOJA Visa Framework" on 25 Aug, with no dates or fees (Kenyans.co.ke, 25 Aug). Uganda's Cabinet separately backed a three-month visa-fee waiver around the tournament, announced 7 Apr (VisasNews, 7 Apr; secondary).
Our inference: a June-July 2027 rate card cannot assume a single-visa gateway yet. Only Uganda has a stated fee relief, and that is reported second-hand.
🎯 So what: price AFCON-window rooms on the current visa rules. Add a visa-change clause rather than discounting for an unconfirmed benefit.
